Dr. Russell Tipton joined the Department of Music Activities at Texas A&M University in the summer of 2016 and serves as the senior associate director of bands.

In this capacity, he holds two primary roles as conductor of the Symphonic Band and senior associate director of the Fightin’ Texas Aggie Band.

Additionally, he serves as a captain in the Texas State Guard.

Prior to his appointment at Texas A&M, Dr. Tipton taught in the Texas public school system as the director of bands in Bridge City ISD, C.O. Wilson Middle School and Hardin-Jefferson ISD. His bands regularly received the UIL ‘Sweepstakes’ Award, and he had bands advance to the UIL Area C Marching Contest and recognized as a State Finalist in the Texas Music Educators Association Honor Band competition on multiple occasions. From 2011 to 2016, Dr. Tipton served as the principal tubaist in the Symphony of Southeast Texas.

He resides in College Station, Texas, with his wife, Lindsey, and their son, Nolan.

Dr. Tipton graduated from Humble High School in Humble, Texas, in 2000. He completed all of his academic degrees at Lamar University:
