Dr. Lance Sample is the associate director of bands in Music Activities at Texas A&M University.

In this role, he serves as the conductor of the Concert Band and associate director of the Fightin’ Texas Aggie Band.

Prior to his appointment at Texas A&M, Dr. Sample was a faculty member at the University of Minnesota – Twin Cities, where he was the assistant director of bands and assistant director of athletic bands. His duties at Minnesota included teaching courses in conducting and marching band techniques, conducting the university campus bands and serving as the assistant director of “The Pride of Minnesota Marching Band.”

Before his graduate studies, Dr. Sample taught in the public schools of Maryland.

Education

Dr. Sample holds degrees from three different universities:

  • Bachelor of Music Education, West Virginia University

  • Master of Music Education, Florida State University

  • Doctor of Musical Arts in Wind Band Conducting, The University of Texas at Austin

His principal conducting teachers include Jerry F. Junkin, Richard Clary, Don Wilcox and Lawrence Christianson.
