Dr. Lance Sample is Associate Director of Bands in Music Activities at Texas A&M University. As Associate Director of Bands, he serves as conductor of the Concert Band and Associate Director of the “Fightin’ Texas Aggie Band.” Dr. Sample previously was on the faculty at the University of Minnesota - Twin Cities, during which he served as Assistant Director of Bands and Assistant Director of Athletic Bands. While at the University of Minnesota, he taught courses in conducting, marching band techniques, conducted the university campus bands, and was the assistant director of “The Pride of Minnesota Marching Band.” Dr. Sample received his Bachelor of Music Education degree from West Virginia University, Master of Music Education degree from Florida State University, and Doctor of Musical Arts degree in Wind Band Conducting from The University of Texas at Austin. His principal conducting teachers include Jerry F. Junkin, Richard Clary, Don Wilcox, and Lawrence Christianson. Prior to his graduate studies at The University of Texas and Florida State University, Dr. Sample taught in the public schools of Maryland.
His professional affiliations include the College Band Directors National Association, the Texas Music Educators Association, and the Texas Bandmasters Association.
